What is PMI?
Project Management Institute (PMI) is one of the world's largest professional membership associations, with half a million members and credential holders in more than 185 countries. It is a not-for-profit organization that advances the project management profession through globally recognized standards and certifications, collaborative communities, an extensive research program, and professional development opportunities. Most of PMI's activity takes place in regional chapters. These chapters, open to PMI members and led by volunteers, support the knowledge sharing and professional networking that are central to our mission.

To Join PMIH:
New members are required to be a member of PMI; you can join both at the same time (PMI global organization and PMI Heartland Nebraska/Iowa Chapter). Go to Memberships. When joining the global organization, you will be given an opportunity to also join a chapter. Use the "chapter listings" link to find the Heartland Nebrasaka / Iowa Chapter.
If you are already a member of PMI, but not yet a member of the PMI Heartland Nebraska / Iowa Chapter, you can add chapter membership to your profile by following these steps:
- Go to PMI.org (the global PMI website) and log in
- Go to the myPMI dashboard and follow the steps to find and join a chapter.
- Use the "Chapter Listings" link to find the Heartland Nebraska / Iowa Chapter
The PMI Heartland Nebraska/Iowa Chapter, based in Omaha, Nebraska, was formed in 1993. We serve the Omaha/Council Bluffs area and are a part of PMI Region 2 -- 21 chapters in the United States and Canada.
Activities and Events
- Monthly Program Meetings are typically held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Scott Conference Center on UNO's campus. These include a lunch and a speaker. Click here to pre-register to attend these events. The cost is $20 for members that pre-register and $25 for non-members, $25 day of event for all walk-ins, including members.
- Professional Development Day is a day-long conference in October with professional speakers; typically attended by over 300 people, it is a great way to meet other project management professionals in the area.
- Spring and Fall PMP Study Groups focus on preparation for the PMP or CAPM Certification exam. These groups meet once a week for six weeks and focus on a different topic each week.
- Advanced Education Series are PDU-eligible seminars offered once to twice a year on a project management topic.
- The PMIH Mentoring Program offers the opportunity to be mentored or to be a mentor to a member practitioner. This program requires a 9-month commitment, focusing on creating and building a mentoring relationship to advance the mentee in the project management profession.
