The Election of Officers will take place July 19 thru August 2, 2017.  Voting will be administered using PMI’s Votenet service.  When voting opens, PMI will send an email to members of PMI Heartland Nebraska / Iowa Chapter with the URL along with a unique user ID and password.  Election results will be announced at the monthly luncheon meeting on August 16, 2017 and on the chapter’s website.

Why do you want to become VP Communications?

First of all I am stepping up because the Chapter has a need, nature abhors a vacuum.  Second, to help Chapter members by facilitating the PMI message within and outside the Chapter.  Third, to help our Chapter continue in growth and impact on our community.

 

Why are you proud to be PMI Heartland Chapter member?

I am proud to be an active and participating member of our Chapter because PMI is a professional organization where practitioners of the art and science of project management can further the profession through sharing experiences, education, best practices and giving back to the community.

Our Chapter continues to grow and pursues furthering Project Management through professional development, certification preparation and networking opportunities.  Being part of such an organization is both a privilege and responsibility, members need to take advantage of the opportunities provide and give back to and grow our profession.

 

What skill(s) or strength(s) will you contribute most towards VP Communications that will further the Chapter's success, and how will you apply them?

I retired from the U.S. Air Force after being an active duty officer for over 28 years, and began work as a defense contractor after retirement.  My diverse professional background includes: multiple military tours of duty as commanding officer of up to 300 people in the United States as well as overseas and in conditions of peacetime through combat; flight instructor; planner; chief of staff; executive mentor; program manager; project manager; and project office lead.

Organization; always like to organize, but never re-organize just for the sake of it.  Advocate and build processes when and where new ones are needed as well as re-inforce current processes, standards and norms.  

Communication; I am personally quiet until a topic of interest comes up, then watch out.  Communicate the complimentary messages of PMI and our Chapter to build our professional image and further engagement in the local area.

Tenacity; you only lose when you give up...never give up, fight the good fight.  Encourage contribution to newsletters and participation in PMI communication efforts, continue to embrace new means to spread the Chapter’s message.

Perfectionist; some would say this is a prerequisite to being a PM, it can be used for good when properly harnessed.  If it isn't right, then make it right; and strive to get it right the first time.  I have made templates for PMI Chapter, and there’s always room for more.

Roman; not so much an originator, but like to make improvements.  Our Chapter communications has a strong foundation and has room for growing contribution and expansion.

VP Communications Candidate

Why do you want the position?

I offer an energetic, experienced perspective surrounding communications including communicating via all channels: websites, E-blasts, Newsletters, Survey’s and all Social Media.  I have proven relationship-building skills that will increase membership, grow additional and deeper partnerships and help foster open and timely communication for our membership.

Why are you proud to be a PMI Heartland Chapter member?

I am born and raised in Omaha and have developed many lasting partnerships across the metro area.  I am proud to be the Director of Marketing for the PMI Heartland chapter and have worked across many positions to assist others with on-going tasks.  I feel extremely fulfilled being a part of a global organization that provides membership, networking, and professional education & certification aspects to its members.  My goal is to ensure that we increase the PMI Heartland chapter publicity as well.

If elected, I would like to:

  • Mentor and develop Director positions in communication and marketing
  • Publish program & marketing plans outlining monthly and chapter events.
  • Notify membership not less than ten (10) days before all special meetings called by the President.
  • Notify membership and post on the website within 48 hours of receipt of information for all general meetings.
  • Receive from Vice President - Membership, and maintain up-to-date copy of the mailing list for use in mailing PR emailing Chapter event notices, newsletters (if any), and annual report.
  • Notify membership of all nominations twenty-one (21) days before election.
  • Monitor and report upon the general membership's requirements and response to Chapter Programs.  This includes the preparation, analysis, and reporting on questionnaires and other evaluation devices. 
  • Maintain a file of all Chapter correspondence (meeting minutes, mailings, etc.).    
  • Prepare for, procure, and distribute Chapter stationary and printed materials if needed.
  • Prepare monthly status reports for presentation at Chapter Board meetings.
  • Maintain and deliver all permanent records to the position successor as required.
  • Prepare a yearly budget proposal as needed.         
  • Fill the role of Project Manager establishing volunteer committees for the preparation and editing of monthly newsletters (if any published articles, and local advertisements describing Chapter activities and plans, and currency of the chapter website. 
  • Develop and place advertisement in local newspapers of Chapter meetings, events, workshops, seminars, and vendor shows.
  • In cooperation with Vice President - Programs, prepare draft text of meeting notices and newsletters for review by the Board at their meeting preceding each Chapter meeting.
  • With the cooperation of other Board members, establish an awards program to show honor and distinction for professional accomplishments and Chapter participation.
  • Prepare monthly status reports for presentation at Chapter Board meetings.
  • Maintain and deliver all permanent records to the position successor as required.                  

What skill or strength will you contribute most towards the Chapter’s success and how?

I have vast experience with customer services, project management and event planning, all which requires elite communication skills across various channels.  My vast connections and relationships can benefit the PMI Heartland in growing chapter membership, increasing communication to our membership, marketing events, programs etc.

  • 7+ years of technical Project Management focused on best-in-class, cloud-based customer contact solutions including: IVR, ACD, Automated Survey, NICE recording, MPLS connectivity and customer contact-center operations improvements.

  • Created Marketing surrounding the Key Note Speakers and ProDev events
  • Crated marketing and posted on local websites for a Networking workshop
  • Consistently assist VP programs surrounding monthly luncheon check in and back-end reporting
  • Marketing PMI events through various local websites
  • Assisted Director of AES in obtaining breakout speakers
  • Attended and networked at R2 conference in April 2017
  • Created Marketing Checklist to be completed by Director of Programs and VP of Professional Development
  • Contacted various other chapters to learn marketing and communication techniques
  • Developed relationships with Omaha and Council Bluffs chamber of commerce

1) Why do you want the position?

I would like to continue to serve the Heartland Chapter in order to promote the value of project managers to business and non-profit leaders. I would also like to assist in providing the strategic direction for the chapter and to act as an ambassador for our chapter, region, and global community. I enjoy connecting project managers with relevant topics and strategies to increase our ability to serve professional, academic, and non-profit organizations.  

2) Why are you proud to be a PMI Heartland member?

The PMI Heartland chapter is a thriving chapter that consistently serves the project managers of the Omaha metropolitan area. I am proud to be a PMI Heartland member because I am part of achieving a greater vision to promote project management. We provide core project management services as well as activities that are customized to the uniqueness of our chapter.

3) What skill or strength will you contribute most towards PMI Heartland success?

I would like to leverage my varied volunteer and strategic business experience, as well as my passion for project management, to serve the members of our chapter.

I served 2 terms as VP Finance, I believe it was 2006-2010. I also served as registration desk volunteer for chapter luncheon meetings from 2010 to now.
